Overview

Modular Cooling for Industrial and HVAC Systems

A square cooling tower is a mechanical-draft evaporative cooling tower with a square or near-square external structure. It removes heat from circulating water by bringing the water into contact with moving ambient air. Square towers may use counterflow or crossflow operation and can be supplied as packaged, single-cell or modular multi-cell systems. Final performance depends on water-flow rate, inlet and outlet temperatures, wet-bulb temperature and project conditions.

Axial Fan and Fan Blades

The axial fan moves air through the tower. Blade balance, pitch, clearance and condition affect airflow, vibration, noise and cooling performance.

Electric Motor

The electric motor powers the fan. Its rating must match the fan design and operating requirements.

Cold-Water Basin

The basin collects cooled water before it returns to the process or chiller circuit. It should remain free from excessive scale, sediment and biological buildup.

FRP Body and Casing

The FRP casing forms the external body and protects the internal components. Material quality, installation and maintenance affect its service life.

Water-Distribution System

A rotary sprinkler or spray-nozzle arrangement distributes hot water over the fill media. Even water distribution supports effective cooling.

PVC Fill Media

PVC fill media increases the contact area and contact time between water and air. Fill selection should consider water temperature, water quality and contamination risk.

Drift Eliminator

A drift eliminator reduces water droplets carried out with the discharge air.

Air-Inlet Section

The lower air-inlet section allows ambient air to enter the tower. Blockages or poor site clearance can restrict airflow.

Float Valve and Make-Up Water System

The float valve controls make-up water and maintains the required basin level.

Support Frame and Connections

The support structure carries the tower load. Inlet, outlet, drain, overflow and make-up connections connect the tower to the circulating-water system.
